Mr. Haun is a teacher from math department in Cotter and he is finishing his Master’s Degree. He is still figuring out the best balance between fatherhood and my profession.

“The best way to keep focused on my priorities is through going to mass and prayer. Raising a child, taking care of the house, finishing my Master’s Degree, and teaching all at the same time is a Herculean task. Taking time to prioritize helps me stay balance”

According to Mr. Haun, Bryson is doing very well. He sleeps and eats regularly. Henormally sleeps around 3 hours at a time during the evenings. During the day theduration is closer to two hours. Mr. Haun’s wife Kaylee is adjusting. Overall, they are doing well.

“She is definitely more tired than me because she is up more with him at night.”

When asked about his thoughts on leaving school for two weeks, Mr. Haun said: “Before being gone, I was not sure how the students would handle the two week absence. I was anxious about being gone for that long. However after the two weeks, I was not ready toreturn back to the classroom and wanted more time at home. I was fortunate to have good support from the substitute teachers and the school that made both transitions easier.”

As a new father, he still don’t know how he feels. “I still don’t see myself as a father. It is a pretty overwhelming time right now. Each day I feel more and more at ease with the idea of being responsible for another life.”

For Mr. Haun, it is hard to believe how little Bryson is. He is excited about how Brysonis growing and his brain is developing

.“It is a lot of pressure to make sure he stayshealthy,” he said,”I think the frustrating part right now is the inability to communicate with Bryson. I do not know why he is crying at times or if he will stop. According to the textbooks, this is a normal part of this early period and it will obviously pass as he develops.”

About future, Mr. Haun thinks he will try his best to be fair. “At the same time children need rules and guidelines to ensure they learn proper expectations both as a member of the family and eventually society. Children need to know there are consequences (both positive and negative) for all their actions.”

Mr. Haun is excited for the period when Bryson begins to talk and move around. Hewants to be able to read with him and interact. “At this point, the interactions are pretty one sided,” he said.
