And the Espy for best perfomance in a chess tournament goes to.....

Last Saturday, Cotter held a chess tournament open to the public and over half the participants were current students.

Cade “Bobby Fischer” Espy came out victorious over the runner-up, Sung-Woo Jang, in a hotly contested final match that ended after 30 minutes.

Espy, the champion, has been playing since the summer before the third grade, and has played by the idea of being aggressive.

“I like to trade pieces and be aggressive,” said Espy, “Sung-Woo was pretty good.  I just think that he may have gotten tired near the end of our match.”

Cade is not a member of Cotter’s chess team.  Although he has considered joining, the practices and meets didn’t fit into his schedule, as he has been involved in a robotics design competition.

This wasn’t Cade’s first rodeo, he has won two previous chess tournaments, one in the 3rd grade, and one in 4th grade.

During our interview, Cade  played the Mac computer in a game of chess.  Watching him match wits with a machine, it was soon obvious that the trophy he won at  the tournament was well deserved.

Fortunately for Cotter, Cade will be participating with the chess team for the next couple weeks.
