MWMF readies to rock Winona

Local and regional acts will take to the stage in Winona for the fifth year of Midwest Music Fest (MWMF),  which looks to be stronger than ever.

On Thursday through Saturday, April 24 -26  the festival will fill downtown Winona at 13 stage locations. The festivities will feature local and regional acts with a mix of up-and-coming acts and polished professionals, in genres ranging from hip-hop to folk and many others.

Midwest Music Fest, started by Sam Brown in 2010 as an AmeriCorps project, hosts  over 125 bands and musicians, up from about70 acts the inaugural year. In addition to the all the live music, the festival will offer workshops focusing on songwriting, sound production and marketing for musical acts, as well as some vending  from Defiance Guitars and others.

Inspired by a festival in Willamette, Oregon, Brown thought it would be cool to bring the music and community mix to Winona. Locations include the Levee (where a tent able to house 500+ people will be a new venue), Acoustic  Cafe, Broken World Records, and the Arts Center, and Ed’s No Name,  to name a few of the 13 venues.

Headliners include Lizzo, Charlie Parr, 4onthefloor, Night Phoenix, Caroline, Smith, John Mark Nelson, Fathom Lane, and We Are The Willows. A six-member team chose from over 300 applicants to narrow down to the 125 acts performing.

Individual scheduling has been released, check the official website for times and locations of each performance. There is a schedule app “Sched” available to plan which acts you will be attending.

For sale at Some Sum Studios on 3rd Street, a 3-day pass is currently available for only $60 general admission. If you’d only like to attend for one day, the cost is $20.

Attendees have to be 21 years old with ID to attend certain show locations, but individuals under 18 are invited to attend with their parents. Most sets are available for all ages to attend.
