To say the ramblers come in as underdogs Thursday, some would say is an understatement. The Cotter boys travel to Lake City on Thursday February 28th to take on the tigers at 7 o’clock at Lake City high school. The Tigers who are 22-2 on the season and 19-0 in district play are riding a 16 game win streak and come in with two juniors averaging 16 and 21 points per game.

But don’t count out the ramblers

Although the rambler’s record (7-19) won’t show it, they’ve competed with with the best of the best and have lost 4 games within 10 points including two by only one point. Seniors Laken Macal (6’4) and Talyn Gilbertson (6’3) lead the way averaging 13 ppg each with Macal bringing down 8 rebounds per game. Following shortly behind sophomore Connor Yocum balances out at 10 ppg 5 rebounds and 3 assists per game.

Cotter’s head coach Dan Messman believes that if the rams play to the best of their ability and play as a team, they have a shot. Sophomore Cale Beckman stated “If we show out true potential you never count us out of a game”. Along with Talyn Gilbertson stating that teamwork and communication will be key factors in the game thursday.

One thing the team has looked back on was the NCAA tournament last year when 16 seeded UMBC took down 1 seeded Virginia. The story gives them hope and really goes to show that any team can beat any team on any given night.
