The Cotter girls basketball team had quite a season, earning a conference title and making it to the 3rd round of playoffs before falling to Lake City in the section 1AA semifinals.

Juniors Megan Morgan and Olivia Gardner were two key players and they have been recognized by the Winona Daily News, Morgan earning 1st team honors and Gardner named to the 2nd team.

Despite the uncertainty of the season due to Covid-19 and the protocols enforced by the Minnesota State High School League and state legislation, the team . The recent run of success that this team has become accustomed to did not change, Megan Morgan exceled yet again.

As recognition the two time consecutive first team all conference player, was named to the Winona Daily News’ First Team All Area. Morgan averaged nearly 16 points per game(15.9), 7 rebounds a game, almost 4 assists a game(3.8), and 2.4 steals. Morgan also became the tenth girl in Cotter’s history to surpass 1,000 career points.

“Megan had an incredible year, without question she was the key player in our conference championship and final four appearance in the section,” Coach Pat Bowlin responded to the Winona Daily News.

“I’m thankful to be on the all area team and it truly is a testament to our whole team. Our coaches make us better everyday, the team always works so hard. My goal next  year is to make it onto this list again next year, it is a great reminder to keep working and preparing for next season, ”  Morgan said.

Olivia Gardner, another two time consecutive first time all conference player, made the Daily News’s 2nd team.   Gardner averaged over 10 points and almost 5 steals per game (4.6) and had4.7 rebounds as well.

“Her strength is defense and getting steals and deflections,” Bowlin told the Daily News.

The Ramblers will lose seniors Ellie Macal and Aubrey Williams, but figure to have a strong squad again next year led by the returning all-conference and all-area duo.
