What the FROLF?!

There’s a “hippie-esque” pandemic that’s taking Winona by storm and no, it’s not a second coming of Woodstock.

“Frolfing” or “disc golf”, as players refer to it, has been on the rise in Winona over the years and is now become an all out virus in the community.   The name is a portmanteau derived from frisbee and golf.  With courses at both lakes and at Saint Mary’s University, there are plenty of places to get infected.

“A lot of people think it’s an easy game, but not if you know the rules and play competitively,” WSU student David Smith said,

“I’ve played a couple tournaments in the past years, every single rule is enforced. It’s not just throwing discs at chains, the rules are a lot like golf in some ways.”

The lake courses in Winona, named “The Willows”, were designed and built in 1980 with a total of 18 holes around the park.

Saint Mary’s course, named “The Woods”, was established in 2006 with a total of 18 holes around the campus as well. Both courses are free of charge, so catching the disease is easy.

Come on down to Lake Winona or stop by Saint Mary’s, you’re sure to have a “sick” time, man!
