Things could not have gone much better for the Cotter baseball team last week, as they managed to build a four game winning streak by beating P-E-M, Southland, Rushford-Peterson, and Wabasha-Kellogg.

The first two games of the week were played on the road in Plainview and Rushford. Cotter managed to beat P-E-M 11-3 behind the arm of Josh Forst (2-0) on Tuesday night.

Then Thursday night was the Hunter Andre show. Andre struck out nine batters, while pitching a five inning no-hitter. Andre was backed by Jonah Spiten’s solo home run, Logan Devorak’s diving catch at the wall, and smart team baserunning.

Friday night was a different story, as Rushford-Peterson stifled the Ramblers’ hitters.”We were hitting the ball hard, it just always ended up going right to there glove,” said senior first baseman Sam French.

Fortunately for the Ramblers, starting pitcher Matt Masyga bailed their bats out. Masyga pitched six innings, while only allowing one run on six hits and striking out six batters. Matt looked like he was about to break at times, but he never did.

“Sometimes you miss pitches, but you just have to come back, hit your spots, and get outs,” said Masyga. He did exactly that on Friday night.

Saturday was a sight to behold. The Ramblers look flat out tired to start the ballgame. Wabasha-Kellogg was rolling behind the arm of Ryan Wolfe, who was in control early on. Then, with one out to go in the top of the fifth inning, the Ramblers found their bats. Suddenly Ryan Wolfe was hittable, as the Ramblers piled on five runs in the inning. They followed by adding four runs in the sixth as they cruised to a 10-7 victory to cap the week. Sam French pitched the final 3 innings, only allowing three hits and striking out two batters. “Nothing is ever over until its over,” added centerfielder Jonah Spiten.

The Ramblers will look to keep the streak alive at home against Caledonia on Monday night.
