Girls Tennis Shows Great Improvement

With their final game of the year over with, and having four wins and ten losses to their year, the girls tennis team becomes seventh in the MSHSL standings. Starting off the year a little slow, with three losses for their first three games, it wasn’t until their fourth game that they would bring in their first win of the year. After talking with head varsity coach, Blake Duden, I asked him a few questions on his past in the sport, this season, and his future plans.

With this being Duden’s fourth year as Cotter tennis coach, he was a little worried towards the beginning of the year with the small numbers that appeared. Luckily, with 11 players joining for the season, and a need for 10 players, the Cotter girls tennis team had just enough for the season. After asking Duden about how he believed the season went, he followed with, “I think the season was a huge success… As the season progressed all 11 players improved drastically, some from a beginning level to a level at which they could compete and others from a competing level to a level at which they could win.”

When asked about Duden’s goals for next year, Duden stated that their goals were to, “improve as a team, keep the kids playing and improving this off season, and break into the conference schools next year.” One of their other goals would be to beat Lake City or Stewartville next year.
