The Cotter Speech team’s successful season will be capped of this weekend, with ten speakers in seven different categories qualifying for the state speech meet.

Cotter finished second at the section tournament, coming up short of rival Cannon Falls in the team standings.

In order to qualify for the State Meet, competitors need to place in the top three in their category, and there are thirteen total categories.

Every placement in the top six earns points for the team which are added up at the end to calculate a team champion, in addition to individual category champions and state qualifiers.

For Cotter, the ten speakers advancing to State are as follows:

Hannah Graff (1st, Drama), Cecilia Galke and Jonah Heckman (3rd, Duo), Jase Vafaei (2nd, Discussion), Hailey Biesanz (1st, Extemp Speaking), Madie Lemmer (3rd, Extemp Speaking), Aubrey Williams (1st, Great Speeches), Grace Miller (1st, Informative), Lexi Licheng (1st Prose), Olivia Moore (2nd Prose).

All ten speakers will be speaking in the John Nett building to ensure there are no internet problems due to the meet being virtual. First round of the competition kicks off at 9:30 this Saturday.
