Track Teams look to continue winning ways

With the snow starting to melt Cotter’s runners and throwers are anxious to get outside on the track.

Both the boys and girls are coming off successful seasons. Last year the boys won the state true team title and had a fantastic season. The girls placed 5th at true team, which is one of the best measures of a team’s progress in track, and also the highest the team has finished recently.

Coach Jewison has some new goals for this year’s group:  “We are going to try and do a better job of interacting with each athlete and find out what their strengths and goals are. Also, we will try to connect with each kid everyday. We want to help each kid become a better person.”

With the loss of many seniors from last year, Coach Jewison expects that their will need to be new leadership, especially among the boys. There are a lot of kids that will need to step up and know what their role is.

The girls team, of course, also lost runners to graduation, but there is a strong group of junior girls, and they know their role on the team and what needs to be done.

Coach Jewison also said, “This year will be fun for both groups, but it will just be different than what it has been.”

Track started Monday, March 10th. They have had two solid days of practice and have kids that really want to be at practice, and get better.

“Having kids that want to be here is a very positive thing,” says Coach Jewison.
