What is the most challenging high school sport?  Many people would argue over the answer to that question, but many also might answer “Wrestling!”

Just ask Jack Vaselaar and Jacob Summers, two Ramblers wrestling on a combined team at Winona High.

Jacob is a 7th grader who has moved way up to be part of an older team.

“I wrestle at 106 lbs. It is not very hard for me to stay in my weight because I am 12 lbs. under, but in the next up-coming years it become harder and harder to stay at my weight. My season is going pretty well and very well for a 7th grader wrestling on a high school team. I have already lettered this year ,” said Summers.

“We practice from 4-6 Monday through Friday except Thursday when we have meets. We also have meets on Saturday. The practices are structured kind of like this first we stretch and jog the we do some drilling and then we do live wrestling and sprints.  Being from cotter isn’t bad at all all of my teammates are very supportive and help me when I am stuck or I don’t get something, especially Jack Vaselaar. I would also like to say that if you are stuck and don’t know if you should come out come out they are good practices that keep you in shape.”

Jack Vaselaar is a freshman who is having a great season. His record this year is 20 wins and 8 losses.

“My philosophy in wrestling is champions are made when nobody is watching. My favorite part about wrestling is being with a team and meeting new people. and my plan is to make it to state,”  said Vaselaar.

“I wrestle at 120 and 113. It is very hard too keep my weight at the right spot with all of the food around you.  I have been wrestling with the same kids since first grade, so being from Cotter is not a big deal. I would like to encourage more kids to come out, it’s fun, you get in shape and we need more guys on the team,”  added Vaselaar.

The team is coached by Matt Drazkowski, Joe Hoialman, Adam Whirley, and Brad Masche.  Jacob and Jack are looking forward to having a strong finish to their season.
