Poems from the 8th Grade
We will be posting some poems written by students, here are the first two from Ms. Kerr’s 8th grade English class:
“When You Were Young”
When You Were Young
When you were young I looked
at the sun because
it reminded me of your smile,
the way it lit up when you saw me.
You are the sunshine in my life;
I remember following you around our little
blue house, watching you play
on the old wooden swing-set
not having a care in the world.
Now when I visit you in this dark place,
so little, so weak,
I am reminded of the moon because of
the way your smile has changed.
New and full, one side
always in the dark. Yet I still see the
Yet I still see the
light of the sun trying to eclipse through black.

The Story of School
This is the place where skill has no matter,
where how you think is how you survive.
This is the place where you work together,
work with ear and eye,
and through your head and hand.
Occasions of sound pass the halls,
then silence falls upon the rooms.
Your pencil is ready, mind alert, as you wait,
you get nervous and forget what to say,
then you get onstage and present away.
