The Cotter Ramblers girls basketball team bounced back from their loss to Caledonia with an impressive win against non-conference opponent Lake City.

The Ramblers (0-1, 1-1) were down early 14-4, but stormed back, charged by defensive play.

“We struggled to start the game, but we played tremendous defense the rest of the way to defeat Lake City,” head coach Pat Bowlin said.

Not only did Cotter impress defensively with 15 takeaways, the Ramblers took care of the ball on offense with only 7 turnovers and 3 scorers in double digits.

The Ramblers were led by juniors Gabby Bowlin, Jane Koll and senior Mikala Nelton. Bowlin was the leading scorer of the night with 20 points, and also brought a defensive spark with 4 steals. Koll finished the night with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Nelton was force to reckon with on the glass, leading with 9 rebounds and also adding 12 points for a near double-double. Senior forward Kirsten Weifenbach had 8 points.

Senior forward Madi Green scored 14 points for Lake City (1-0, 1-1), who plays Lewiston-Altura (0-1, 0-2) on Friday. Allison Kubista contributed with 11 points.

The Ramblers take on La Crosse Aquinas across the river on Saturday at 7:30 PM.
