Common Application Becoming More Common

Common+Application+Becoming+More+Common

The Common Application is gaining popularity among high school teachers and students here at Cotter.

About 20 to 25% of the senior class will use this form, with a much higher percentage of resident students using the form than local students.  International students typically apply to a greater number of schools, and this is when the Common App. is most useful.

Many upperclassmen, especially seniors, are familiar with the Common Application. However, many of the younger students have not heard about it. So here are some quick facts about this form of college application.

The Common App is a national website where students place fill out a single application. Over 500 colleges, in all 50 states and eight countries then accept this form of application. Many colleges that accept it also require additional information to apply, according to Cotter counselor Mrs. O’Brien. Every college using the Common App requires an application fee.  The benefit for the student is that they do not have to continue to fill out the same information for each school they apply to.

The Common Application has been gaining popularity across the nation. Their website was redone at the beginning of the 2013 school year, and since then the Common App has been easier to access and complete.

Senior Roger Brosnahan used the Common App for his college application process. Brosnahan had this to say of the Application. “It’s helpful.”

Brosnahan applied to several schools across the nation this year. He added that. “The Common Application sure saved me a lot of time.”

Teachers can also write recommendation letters using the Common App website. More information on the Common Application can be found at www.commonapp.org.
