Senior guard Jonah Spiten shoots over a Zumbrota-Mazeppa defender in last year’s Lewiston Auto Holiday Tournament. Spiten leads the team in scoring with 16.5 PPG so far this season.

In the game of basketball, rebounds are an important statistic to keep in mind.

It’s difficult to win the battle on the boards when a team only grabs three offensive rebounds, which Cotter (0-1, 0-2) did in its 51-38 loss to La Crescent (1-1, 1-1) on Tuesday.

“We rebounded terribly. Our effort was there, but we have got to come ready to play,” said head coach Tom Zukowski.

La Crescent junior Jason Gurholt led all scorers with 17 points. Cotter seniors Jonah Spiten and Hunter Andre were in double-digit scoring, adding 15 and 10, respectively. Spiten was 3/8 from the three point line, but the Ramblers struggled to shoot beyond the arc. Junior David French was the only other Rambler to hit a three-point shot, bringing the team total to 4/18 on the game.

Cotter returns after the break on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at Caledonia, ranked #5 in Class AA.
