Coach Masyga Sees Growth in First Season at Helm

The Cotter volleyball team had an uneven season  in coach Brian Masyga’s first year as varsity coach.  Both the coach and players, however, noted more competitive matches and game wins as signs that the team is heading the right direction

Coach Masyga had spent several years as the junior varsity coach, but has stepped up to take over the varsity when former coach Nick Whaley stepped aside.

Masyga’s varsity career started off strong as the team defeated Lake City in their first match. The team, however, struggled to win matches, despite being competitive throughout the season, finishing the season with three wins.
Despite the losing record, the team had a sense of accomplishment. “We played hard every game, i think winning at least one game in almost every match was a big step for us,” said senior Hannah Spiten.

The girls battled in each match, but had trouble finishing. Coach  Masyga said during the fall sports banquet that the last four matches they played to end of the season were the best games they played all season. He also said that their last match against Dover Eyota was a fun game to watch because they battled so hard and that they left everything on the court.

The team hopes to build from being competitive to earning more wins next year.
