Boys basketball focus on effort and improvement

With a 9 win, 16 loss record last year, the boys basketball team looks to turn that record around with the goal of a winning season.

To help with that, the Ramblers are looking to their two returning starters to score the ball for them. One being Noah Nachtigal, who was the team’s second leading rebounder and has great ability around the glass. The other returning starter is Josh Salwey, who is a very physical player in the paint.

David French will take over at the point guard position and provide the team with great passes and 3-point shots. Another starter who will be key for the boys basketball team is Henry Reilly. Coach Zukowski says, “Henry will be a big impact in our scoring department”.

Everyone on the team needs to know their role.

Senior post Noah Nachtigal said, “The key to our season this year is going to be having good team chemistry where everyone knows their role on the team. If everyone puts in a good effort and plays their role, it was all come together as a team.”

Senior post Josh Salwey also added, “it is important for us to all work together, be patient while sharing the ball, and find a way to get a good shot.”

With these four players, the Ramblers will also get some help from the bench in juniors Connor Zukowski, Austin Kerrigan, and Parker Nelton.

Coach Zukowski says, “The team is deep with ability which should make for a fun year”.

A goal for the boys basketball team this year is to compete for the conference title as well as make a run in the section during playoffs.

The boys team had a great off-season, with many of the varsity players in the gym every day of the summer. This shows the determination and hard work the players put in, and it also shows how committed coach Tom Zukowski is to making the team better.

The key games this year to achieve their goals is to beat teams like Caledonia, who has several division one players on their roster, St Charles, who returns a veteran team, and of course Lourdes, which is always a great game for Cotter. Beating these teams will be tough, but with the work ethic and heart of the players on the team, nothing is impossible.

Coach Zukowski says, “We focus all our energy into the defensive side of the ball; we must be able to defend and then play as a team offensively sharing the ball for the best possible shot”. That will all be key to having a winning season this year.
