Senior Beth Parlin lifts 35 kilograms in the snatch at Saturdays Southern Minnesota High School Open.

The Cotter weight lifting team traveled to Cannon Falls, Minn. for a competition on Saturday.

Senior Beth Parlin placed second in her weight class and qualified for March’s state meet at Lakeville South High School. Senior Mary Schwend placed fourth.

“It was really interesting. With weigh-ins, people tried cutting down weight. There was even some vigorous jump roping to make weight. It was new. I was nervous but once I was on the platform I felt comfortable,” Parlin said.

For the men, junior Jake French also placed second. Senior Andy Tofstad placed fifth.

“It was nerve-wracking, but very fun. I had a lot of adrenaline. I almost PR-ed for snatch, which was great,” French said.

The Ramblers are back in action Jan. 16 at Rosemount High School and Jan. 23 at Northfield High School.
