Girls Swim team working towards strong showing at Big 9 meet

Coached by Steve Burt, the girls on the 2016-2017 swim team are having a remarkable season.

With key players, seniors; Harper O’Neill, Jess Kohner, and Emily Boettger.  junior Alexa Lofgren,  sophomores; Lauren Whyte, Morgan Drazkowski, Grace Miller, freshman Mary Hoffman and eighth grade diver Morgan Walker, they anticipate a strong finish.

“We are doing really well! Our team is working hard and having a lot of fun.” Lauren Whyte remarked.

“I’m excited for whats to come for the rest of the season. It has been a great season so far and we’re having a lot of fun.” ,Jessica Kohner, senior captain, added.

The teamunnamed-1 finished last year with 6 wins and 4 losses in dual meets, placed 2nd at the Richfield Spartan Invite, received 5th at the Big 9 conference meet, and sent two relay teams and one individual to state last season.

Coach Steve Burt has been head coach for 12 years and assistant for 1. This past ’15-’16 season coach Burt graduated 7 lettermen athletes and lost a few to other reasons.

Things are currently going well for the team as senior night approaches. The team hopes to finish in the top 5 (out of 12) at the Big 9 Conference at the conference meet, to qualify for state True Team meet, and lastly to qualify for as many athletes as possible for the MSHSL state meet.
